Villarreal is coming from a bit unexpected defeat few days ago as they welcomed Real Sociedad in the second leg of Copa del Rey and even though they had a good 0:0 result from first leg, the team was excluded from the Cup competition with a narrow 1:0 result. Even worse, they won against the same Real Sociedad team 5:1 just few days before too, leaving a bitter taste in their mouth as they finished participation in Cup competition.
As said, the team lost at home against Sociedad, in a game that they simply didn’t enter it in a good way and it was the way they finished it. With ball possession, but without many great opportunities, the team failed to score a goal, even though they did have chances, including a penalty missed in 74th minute by Perbet. Getting back to league competition only, they are currently at fifth position with only two points less than fourth placed Bilbao and are surely targeting three pointer here as they have always relied on strong home performances. Left midfielder Cani (15/2) is still recovering from knee injury, while defender Iniguez (3/0) also still continues to be out injured.

Almeria, on the other side, has entered a kind of a poor form where they look completely clueless especially in offensive part of the team. They are coming from a 0:2 defeat in Cup game against Racing Santander, in a clash where they had every chance to progress to the next stage as they had 1:1 draw from the first leg, but also have played against a team which is two leagues bellow their class.
This exclusion in Cup competition isn’t generally very important for the team, but represents yet another blow after their 6:1 defeat during the weekend against Athletic Bilbao on the road. With this defeat, they are now at sixteenth position in Primera, having three points more than relegating placed Valladolid. Something will have to be improved soon for them, otherwise the atmosphere could get worse in their locker room. Visitors will be still without first choice striker Rodri (14/7), while they will also miss out defender Fernandez who anyway didn’t play any minute this season.
After a surprising exclusion in Cup few days ago, everything but the easy victory of Yellow Submarine will be a surprise here. Guests are not in a good form, are without their best striker and as such, doesn’t represent a big threat to the home side.
