Opinion: Why Wizkid's New Album “Ayo” Might Flop

Most people say Wizkid has been scared to put out a

new album, they might be right, considering the

album he announced today AYO had a solid 2 year

delay on it. He kept his fans wanting (Which might not

entirely be his fault). Now that he (Wizkid) & EME are

ready to release what he had previously referred to as

“his last album under EME”. Let’s take a few minutes to

analyze some reasons Why The New Wizkid Album

“Ayo” MIGHT Flop;

1. A Staggering 7 of the tracks have been released

already

So the 7 tracks that have been released out of the 19

total were great, pretty great. But, none of them was

actually a hit. So look at that for a moment, On top

your matter was great for a minute till it got boring,

same goes for Caro and Show Me The Money… They

just didn’t stick around long enough to do the rounds.

What’s to say this will not be the case for all the other

songs we are yet to hear on the album?

2. More song will likely still drop

It’s 2014, Nigeria has a lot of illegal content pushers

hiding under the umbrella of “Bloggers”. The moment

the album is out on iTunes (Or if EME really wants to

f*** it up Spinlet) people like Jambaze (Permit my

name dropping) will upload the entire album for free

download. They do it all the time. And the bigger more

popular blogs will simply pick one or 2 tracks that

have yet to be released into the general public and call

them “Our Track Picks” and then buying that album for

10 quid off iTunes becomes a problem, since you

already have 10 out of 19 songs available for free

download legally & the rest can just be picked off

blogs from Google illegally.

3. The Tracklist has nothing new to offer

Take a look at the tracklist again, Wizkid has had songs

with a host of people in the past but nothing on this

album seems new, or special for that matter. Save for

maybe Tiger on Show you the money remix. The rest

were quite frankly expected and unexciting. And that

is a bit disappointing to be very honest.

4. The Bandwagon & groupies need to settle down

Once the hullabaloo and the noise has settled over the

sheer excitement fans are feeling to finally see the

album near drop, people will soon start to reason the

album in itself isn’t going to be offering them anything

they aren’t already used to.

5. Knowing Wizkid, The album may still be delayed

further

We remember he announced this album dropping

June 12 some 2 years ago, we also recall it seemed

entirely out of his power. Either his EME oga’s are

trying to squeeze him for every drop of milk on this

album (in which case they might want to hold on to it

till Christmas) or he’s just pulling another Wizkid act

on us. Wizkid has been known to announce track drop

dates and keep his fans across the world waiting. Only

to end up not putting out said track and then dropping

it at odd hours many days after, it’s like a trademark

move with this guy. No surprises if he does it again.

Maybe I’m just hating, but I doubt I am. Every point on

this post has been carefully thought out. And I find

them completely valid. Wizkid vol-trons drop your

curses in the comment section (hint: I will not read

them) and like minds who see the truth in my words

please feel free to share your opinions as well. Let’s

just hope when the album does drop I am not right.

All we can do is hope.
