Fresh facts have emerged on why Stephen Keshi recalled Super Eagles Skipper, Joseph Yobo, to the team ahead of the international friendly match against the El Tri of Mexico on March 5.
Football analyst and critic, Dudu Orumen, in a chat with our correspondent Friday in Lagos said there has been pressures from top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to have Keshi recall Yobo to the team and take him to the World Cup.
“I don’t think the recall is Keshi’s making. He is acting the script of top NFF officials who have been pressurising him to recall the player.
“But we all know it is not right because Yobo has little or nothing to offer again. He has tried his best, he has served us well and did us proud and we all know that but if that is what NFF want, we will give Keshi the support and wish him well at the World Cup,” Orumen said.
Keshi had said that the invited players are the ones his technical crew is looking at in the next four or five years as they are trying to build a team not just for tomorrow but for the future.
“I don’t think Keshi knows what he is talking about because Yobo should be between 38 and 40 years now. If he really wants a team for the future, he should look at the direction of Enyimba FC back four and some good players in our leagues.
“But like I said, I wish him well and we will continue to support him to achieve success but he must do what is right,” Orumen added.
Yobo, who is back in the keenly-followed English Premiership League (EPL), this time with Norwich City, on loan from Fenerbahce FC of Turkey, last played for the Super Eagles at the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations held last year in South Africa, which Nigeria won.
It would be recalled that Yobo angrily hit out at Keshi because he was never informed before being dropped from the squad that faced the Harambee Stars of Kenya in a World Cup qualifier duel played last year in Calabar.
He expressed his grievances saying that Keshi was “disrespectful” not to have given him any notification.
