This time the Merseyside Derby will be
more than just local pride as the two teams
fight for the 4th spot. Liverpool and
Everton are separated by just a point in the
league table.
Currently, Liverpool are in the 4th spot with
43 points from 22 games. Whereas, Everton
find themselves in the 6th position with 42
points from 22 games. However, this might
change this Tuesday if Everton manage to
get a win in Anfield.
The last three derbies have ended as a
draw. The last time these two teams met,
the game ended in a 3-3 draw,
where Daniel Sturridge got a late goal
which denied Everton a win at Goodison
Park in November. But this time both the
managers, Brendan Rodgers and Roberto
Martinez will be looking for their
first Merseyside derby victory.
Everton have not won in the last seven
derbies, and it looks as if is likely to
continue as Liverpool have only lost one
game in Anfield, back in September when
they lost against Southampton by 0-1.
But this game will not be a walk in a park
for Liverpool as Liverpool have a number of
injuries to deal with. Lucas Leiva (knee),
Jose Enrique (knee) and Daniel Agger (calf)
all remain sidelined for this match.
Similarly, couple of players will be
unavailable for Everton too. Ross Barkley
(broken toe), Darron Gibson and Arouna
Kone (both knee) will be out for the derby
match.
However, this will be a game to watch.
Both teams will be high in moral as both,
Liverpool and Everton have progressed to
the 5th round of the FA Cup.
